When you shift into a new home, you have a blank canvas in front of you. If you have moved local distance then this can be overwhelming. But it does not have to be.
Making your house feel like a home is a very important step of the moving process but doesn’t have to be a huge pledge. You don’t need to have a huge budget to create a welcoming or be an interior design expert and inviting space. Creating an environment that can match your personality and incorporates things that make you feel at home and can make you satisfied, happy and, relaxed.
What Makes A House A Home?
Elements that make a house a home varies from person to person. The feeling of home can come from organizing and decorating, making sure that every item has a place.
It can also come from intangible elements. Making new memories with friends and family in your space can create a welcoming environment for years to come.
Add Warmth
A spotless home and expensive furniture are appealing, but that won’t add warmth to your home. Fill your most used spaces with beautiful plush rugs by comfortable furniture and throw blankets the entire family can use. This may seem like an unexpected place to be start but I find that one of the things that unify homes everywhere is an attention to what happens under your feet. Carpets and rug aren’t the only thing you can do to floors but they’re a common first step because they help with the sound insularism in any room. If you have ever moved out of a home or apartment before then you remember how empty the space feels after you have removed your furniture and other belongings. Without anything to absorb the sound, steps echo and can make a space feel emptier than you would like.
Rearrange your furniture.
Nothing is simple like rearranging furniture. (For larger pieces you may want to enlist the help of a friend.) You’ll be astonished at how different your space looks by simply moving a bed, a table, couch or dresser. Your room may even end up like feeling a good bit larger. It will assuredly feel fresher and newer.
Go to nature
Bring the outside in with freshly cut pine cones, cut flower, branches, river rocks, and whatever seems natural and organic ingredients you can find. This is a great thing to get the kids knotted in. Place flowers and branches in the tall glass vases. Group your pine cones and rocks on trays platters and large glass bowls. Place these organic wares planned through your home.
Adopt a pet
Home is where the love is and there is no easier way to get a big rush of love than to adopt a pet from your local shelter. Animals make us healthier and happier, and the basic act of petting a dog’s back or tickling a kitty’s chin can maintain blood pressure reduce stress, and provide us with a strong sense of social support. And though taking care of a pet can surely be a lot of responsibility, there are few things that make a house feel more like a home than being greeted by someone who is extremely excited to see you when you walk through the front door. If you have the money, time and desire to take on the care of an animal, consider making the leap.
